Do You Know How to Choose the Best-Selling E-Book Topics?

Choosing an e-book topic that will sell well is a lot like choosing the best wave to ride. You want to find the one that is on its way up. Like most things, e-book topics follow trends. One month, the topic of dog training secrets will be all the rage. The next, its clean eating tips.

If you want to be successful with your e-books, you need to stay on top of the rising trends. The idea is to find out what people are talking about, what information they are searching for right now instead of taking a few guesses at what they might like.

There are several tactics that you can use when you start to research popular e-book topics:

One of the best places to find e-book ideas is on Clickbank, one of the most popular places to find e-books. You can look at what topics are trending at the moment and what ones are on the rise.

To make the search even simpler, use a site like CB Engine collects data from Clickbank, making it easy to find what topics are growing in popularity.

To use CB Engine, click on “CB Best Gain” in the left column. This will show you the products that have moved up in the rankings on Clickbank. You can choose your search criteria based on momentum, popularity, moving up and moving steady, and those that have big payouts.

Click on a product to go to its data page and review the vital statistics.

Using this information can help you stay on top of trends that are on the rise before the market becomes saturated with e-books. Keep an eye on topics that are jumping higher on the charts to take advantage of growing opportunities.

Do Your Keyword Research

Keyword research is a fantastic way to find popular topics for e-books. You start by writing down a few of your own topic ideas. For example, if you are interested in writing about gardening, you could list ideas like:

  • First-time gardening
  • Gardening when you don’t have the space for a garden
  • Container gardening
  • Organic gardening

And so on.

Write down as many ideas as you can based on your chosen niche topic. Use a keyword tool, like the one for Google AdWords. Type in your ideas, one at a time, and see the results.

The Keyword tool will show you how many people are searching for that keyword phrase (or something similar) every month. You will be able to see how popular those search terms are as well as how high the competition is for them.

Choosing keywords that have too much competition could mean that your e-book would get lost in the crowd. Look for keywords that have a high number of searches but with less competition.

Repeat this process with all of your search phrases so that you can get a clear picture of how well each niche topic will do for you before you invest more time and research into it.

Search the Kindle Book Store

The Amazon Kindle Store is one of the most popular places to find e-books on virtually any subject. You can use the site’s lists of Top 100 books to see what is trending right now.

You will see how long a book has been on the Top 100 list, whether it is moving up the list or moving down. You can also break this down according to category to see what is trending in your specific niche.

Look at Forums

Internet forums are a great place to go when you are looking for topics that people want to know about. People will typically go onto a niche forum to post a specific question about something they need to know.

For example, on a gardening forum, you might see several people posting questions about how to deal with garden pests without harmful chemicals. With that information, you know that there are people looking for more information to help resolve this common problem so it is probably a good topic for an e-book.

E-books have grown in popularity over the last decade. Many people turn to them for quick information about a variety of topics. This is an area that you can focus on when you want to create valuable content.

Are you considering writing e-books? How do you brainstorm ideas for topics?

Get up Early and Start the Day off Right!

For many people, sunrise is not a friend. I love watching the sun come up! It’s my favorite time of day. But there are some who instead of bounding out of bed, ready to greet the day, prefer pulling the covers over your head and catching just a few more minutes of sleep.

Then, you reluctantly give in and stumble out of your cozy bed in search of coffee before you feel like a human being again.

You might be happy with this morning routine, but if not you don’t have to accept it as the start to your day. When you wake up fresh in the morning, you are ready to tackle all of your goals, and in some cases, with a smile on your face.

Despite what you might think, you don’t have to remain among those who classify themselves as “not a morning person.” If you want to change, it can be done simply by changing your habits.

The first step is always to admit that the habit you have is not working in your best interest and that you want to change. Understand that the first thing you try won’t necessarily be the right method for you, so don’t become discouraged. Just move on to another way and keep going until you find what works best.

You’ve probably heard this before, especially if you are a parent: Routine is very important! It may not always be possible to stick with the exact same routine from one night to the next, but try to stay as close as possible to your original plan. Eat healthy throughout the day. Avoid foods that are full of sugars and fat close to bedtime. Eat dinner at the same time each day, several hours before bedtime. Do not ingest any stimulants, such as caffeine, before you go to bed.

One thing to try is to eat a healthy dinner each night. When you do, make notes in a journal that describe how you felt when you woke up, how easy it was to get out of bed, your mood after you begin to get ready for the day. After a few days, you will be able to see if this is working for you.

Get some exercise in the early part of your day. When you keep your body in shape, you will sleep better. It is more beneficial to exercise in the morning instead of at night. If you exercise closer to bedtime, your blood will be pumping, which makes it harder to fall asleep. That extra energy boost that you get will be more helpful at the start of your day, so it just makes more sense to get an early workout.

Do something that makes you happy and relaxed before going to bed. Read a chapter or two of your book, do some yoga or meditation. Do not do something that is likely to cause stress, such as balancing your check book or paying bills. Stressing about money is one of the leading causes of sleepless nights.

Also, switch off the television and computer before you start getting ready for bed. The light from their screens can decrease your melatonin levels, making it even more difficult to fall asleep.

Before going to bed, plan to do something that you enjoy first thing in the morning. Maybe do some sun salutations, or even just enjoy your coffee on the patio to soak up some sunshine. Don’t worry about your to-do list until after you are up and ready to take on the day.

Are you a morning glory or a night owl? What do you do to get yourself out of bed in the morning? Let us know!

Things You May Not Know About Ghostwriters

For many Ghostwriters and writers in general, there are many methods of getting published in existence today. However, some writers feel they lack certain traits or components to consistently produce engaging, solid and fresh content.

So, what happens when writers struggle with publishing or content creation? They hire a Ghostwriter! It happens a lot more than you would ever imagine.

Generally, Ghostwriters handle a number of assignments and a heavy work-load. They are well-versed and experienced in handling many tasks such as single article writing, web content creation, proofing, editing, and blogging, just to mention a few, all the way up to helping with a full-length novel. The term “Ghostwriter” simply means they do not receive any credit for the writing they do for their clients, and their clients can publish the work as if it were their own, with no repercussions.

Ghostwriters specialize in many areas and can write a number of different things.

Due to the vast subjects across the web, Ghostwriters are very flexible and can fit in just about anywhere in a wide variety of genre’s and niches.  They may be summoned to create content for websites, online businesses, brick and mortar businesses and even other writers.  Some Ghostwriters may choose to specialize in certain areas, where others may be more versatile in their knowledge and experience and prefer to create content on any topic, genre or niche.

Generally they are hired to help create articles for article marketing, blog posts, newsletters, email campaigns, web pages, BIOs, press releases, white papers and eBooks, to name a few. Some Ghostwriters are experienced in helping authors get their books into print publication, proof reading and editing.  Some might even write speeches, eulogies, business plans, and other areas where technical or formatted writing is needed.

How can you find or get connected to a Ghostwriter?

Ghostwriters can be found all across the internet. Many Ghostwriters or Ghostwriting companies have websites with examples or portfolios, contact information and rates. They are also marketing savvy and create marketing campaigns through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and the like.  Ghostwriters also network with other writers by joining different forums and writing communities, which may lead to referrals and recommendations.  If you’re in need of hiring a Ghostwriter, finding one that suits your business needs won’t be very difficult.  However, finding a great Ghostwriter will take in-depth research or possibly even a referral from a trusted source.

With the way technology is soaring and the marketing needed for online business owners, Ghostwriters are in high demand.

What Skills is Necessary for Great Ghostwriting?

If you are interested in writing for companies within the United States, you must have a solid understanding of the English language.  In addition, you’ll need to have detailed research skills, excellent typing, spelling, grammar, ability to meet all deadlines, work in a fast-paced and stressful environment, marketing, constant contact with your clients, and knowledge of the different writing styles.

How can you be a Ghostwriter?

Becoming a Ghostwriter takes persistence, dedication, discipline, motivation and organizational skills.  It certainly helps to have a true passion for writing. I can’t imagine anyone doing this that doesn’t truly LOVE it and feel it is their “calling.” If you write without passion, then others will certainly be able to recognize it, and that could damage your reputation.

You’ll need to learn how to market yourself, your services, set your rates, set up a website, create marketing plans, perform article marketing, set limits, figure out your niche, stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technology, and most important…practice, read and write a lot.

6 Simply Awesome Tips to Get Your Articles Read

I know from experience as a Ghostwriter, there are quite a few people out there who really dread writing articles, blogs, or any online content for that matter.  Most people who are not professional writers feel that writing an article would involve too much work, or that its wasted time spent on something people won’t read.  Even readers can develop these feelings, especially if the article seems bland, boring or uncreative. The sole purpose of an article is to have it read, but also to share your important information, or something you are passionate about. In the end, if you don’t put forth the effort, it won’t be read and it will be wasted time.

Of course, for an article to be read, it must be written first! The focus should be put on making the article great and it doesn’t have to be hard or straining. You just need to pay attention to a couple of key parts and follow a few guidelines. Once you’ve incorporated these keys, and make a habit out of them, your writing can be fun and your articles can turn into profitable means for business.

Simply stated, your articles must be about something related to your interests or something that you have knowledge about. Whether it’s your business, hobby or something new you are learning if you know about it and/or are interested in it, this will make the writing much easier.

The bottom line is to create interesting content with creativity.

Here are 6 simply awesome tips that will make your articles enjoyable to read.

1.  Create short paragraphs. When you write a paragraph that is lengthy, the words get all cluttered in the reader’s mind. Sometimes it can cause confusion, and worse, they might quit reading it. So, when you write a paragraph, go back through it and chop the excess off. Make it short, sweet and simple, and don’t forget to get to the point, that’s what readers are after anyways. Also, having 10 paragraphs that are a sentence or two long, is also an acceptable format.

2. Use some bullets. And I don’t mean those from a gun! (Being from Texas you have to watch what you say when you are talking about bullets).  Definitely try to compose your main points into bullets or a numbered list. Overall, the reader will be able to grasp and remember all the main points, tips, or keys you’re addressing. When readers see those bullets, they know that is where the tips start and they know they can get answers fast. Remember to indent them, so they are spaced separately from the paragraphs.

3. Sub-Headings = Sub-divided paragraphs.  See here, how I have each tip in bold letters? This really helps to break up the paragraphs, or in this case, tips, so that it flows quite nicely. It also makes it easier for the reader to navigate through the article, from one point to another. This creates a smooth and efficient transition which will keep the reader’s attention.

4. Create an AWESOME title or header. If a reader is interested in your article just by the title alone, you are off to a great start, my friend. Titles are what inspire people to read. Think about all those trash mags you see at the grocery line counter, its trash, but you’re still interested aren’t you? Your titles should remain short, but enticing! They should describe your article, but again, in a simple yet creative way.

Examples: Reach out to your reader’s emotions or provide something interesting, such as, “Tips to make her want you now,” “How to give her goose-pimples,” or more commanding titles like, “Get her to say “I’m yours” in 6 easy steps.”

5. Keep the “Interesting” rolling. From start to finish, your article should contain things that are very interesting.  You want the reader step back and say, “Oh, now that’s interesting.” Of course, you don’t want to overdo it and throw facts left and right, but you know, let the “interesting” flow. Real life situations are always great to engage readers because people can relate. Descriptions, details, metaphors can guide the reader’s imagination through your article. Remember, making their reading experience exciting, fun and pleasurable will bring them back for more.

6. Use facts and figures. Throwing in a few statistical facts, some numbers, or a graph or two can really drive your article. This is because it presents an authoritative presence.  By no means do you want to make it too formal, but something light and easy will be engaging and it can help to back up whatever you are writing about.

Taking the time to really use these few steps will do wonders for your articles. Just give all of them or some of them a try and see which ones may work best for your article marketing efforts.

What are some of your tips that you have found work for you?

The Snake with Many Lives…or is it Many Snakes?

I love to write. I typically enjoy writing about real life experiences in my own life or others. I’m happy and I want others to be happy, therefore, I like to write things that also make people laugh, smile and escape from the grind of daily life. Life is WAY too short and we must enjoy it! Okay, I said all that to say, this story is a true story that happened a couple months ago. While I didn’t think it was funny at the time, it is now. Enjoy!

A couple of months ago I was getting ready and as I opened my closet door, I almost stepped slap-dab right in the big middle of a SNAKE! Barefooted! I performed an Olympic-like move and catapulted backwards out of my closet and slammed the door. I had no idea I could move that fast! HA! I know I set a world record on the “back-jump”, if there were such a thing.

Chills just took over and the heebie-jeebies set in as I performed an Indian ritual “snake dance”. I never really thought I was scared of snakes…what a way to find out!

Now, how in the world was I going to get that snake out of my closet and out of my house? I was all by myself too; I had to tackle this monster on my own. So, what does a scared-to-death person do? Most people probably would have got a shovel, or fire-place poker or gun (yes, I live in Texas, a gun) and took care of it. Nope, not me, I called my daughter. As if she could help me over the phone.

After a few screams and shrieks with her, I decided to open the closet door again and try and sic my dogs on it! Yep, that was a brilliant idea! I have mean, big, protective dogs and they would get it. I was willing to try anything. They just looked at me like I had lost my mind.

As I opened the door, to my horror and amazement, the snake was GONE!!! Aaaahhhh!! Where in the world did that four feet long, at least three inches in diameter snake go? Now he is in my house SOME WHERE!

Okay, by now my nerves are rattled and my blood pressure it up and I have to calm down. So, I convinced myself that the snake was scared to death of my dogs and found a way to get back outside and all is good. Whew.

A week or two goes by and I have completely forgotten about that snake. Finally, there is peace in the household again. As I pulled back the shower curtain getting ready to get in, I thought I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, but really did not pay any attention to it, just thought it was a piece of the shower curtain my kitten had ripped off.

I have my back to the nozzle and noticed again something out of the corner of my eye. Good gosh, I’m going to have to shut my bathroom door to keep that kitten out of here to keep my shower curtain in tack. As I turned around this time to really look at that piece of plastic or fabric that kept catching my eye and bugging me, I saw that snake squiggling under the edge of the curtain headed right towards me!!

I was too scared to scream for the fact that I thought he would jump at me and attack me or something and could not bare to have a heart attack while I was buck naked!!  My mind was rushing a mile a minute as I quickly and quietly stepped out of the tub (actually fell out of the tub and busted my hiney) grabbed my towel and ran to our bedroom where my husband was sound asleep.

As I flew open the bedroom door, standing there drenching wet, I leaned over to my husbands face and said, “Baby, I found the snake! He is in the tub!!”  You can imagine the look I got from him being awoken from a deep sleep and especially hearing the news I was broadcasting to him. It really was quite comical later after I thought about it…he is totally scared of snakes.

He jumps out of bed and goes running to the bathroom to see for himself, (like I would make something up like this!). He then goes running back to our bedroom to grab the equalizer he was going to kill this snake with! Now you have to know my husband, he is deathly afraid of snakes more than anyone I have ever seen!  So what do you think he grabbed to kill this monster? I’m sure you guessed it…a golf club!

Now, how in the heck was he going to kill that monster with a golf club? I’m getting ready to tell you. He goes back to the bathroom and stretches out as far as he can with the golf club and begins beating the snake.  You can just imagine, bang, bang, bang in the tub several times.  Several bangs later, he scoops up the snake with the fire place shovel and the golf club and takes him outside and goes across the street and dumps him into the pasture.  Whew, finally good riddance!  Oh, and by the way, there was no way I was getting back into that shower. I stood outside the shower and tried to finish my bath. That alone was a site to see.

Finally, snake gone!  Not quite!

Stay tuned for Part 2

Balance Your Business with Freelance Opportunities

Have you ever considered yourself a client? Most freelance writers don’t. They just take on as many viable projects as possible, hoping to keep the work coming in so they can pay their bills and sock some extra away for an emergency or for fun.

But with your writing skills, there’s no excuse for not creating your own info product empire and setting yourself up for a lifetime of automated profits. Wouldn’t you prefer that to just continually seeking out the next project over and over again?

I worked for years as a freelance writer, always balking at those marketers who told me they made $10,000 a MONTH without working anymore. But then this summer (with two main eBooks on the market and a site that sells private label rights content), I took off for an entire month and without lifting a finger, I made $200 a day. Well, $198 and some change, to be precise. That’s over $6,000 a month fully automated.

Right now, you’re working. I want to teach you how to balance your income by creating a business that will work for you like mine does. Now as a freelance writer, you’re probably more cynical and skeptical than your average consumer because you see how the marketers operate – often in an unethical manner, like sending you an eBook and asking for a “knock off” or spying on their competition and asking you to beat them to the punch with a project on the exact same topic.

Your view of eBooks may have been skewed, but let’s wipe away the tarnish and see how this opportunity could change your life. If you created an eBook with your name on it, you’d make sure it was of the very highest quality, wouldn’t you? You would conduct ample research and you would ensure it was unique from your competitors.

Just those two elements will set you apart from the mass of marketers who rehash information and spin their wheels trying to build a solid reputation. Let’s say you’ve picked a niche topic to work with and written a solid, 50-page eBook. The next steps are what always stopped me – the technical details.

All you need to know are these steps and you’ll have an eBook empire generating income for you every day of the week:

1.) Compile and secure your eBook in the right format
2.) House it on a domain with a sales letter designed to convert (this will be hard for you because you’re going to have to write sales copy like a marketer)
3.) Set it up with a shopping cart and on an affiliate marketplace
4.) Promote it and attract others to promote it for a share in the profits

Now of course each of those steps above has some detail involved, but it’s not as hard as you think. Your biggest hurdle is in balancing your workload from clients with your workload in setting up your own business.

When I was ghostwriting, I used Excel to map out what tasks I had left to complete for a client. The top row had their name (so I had several columns depending on how many projects I was working on), and each row below the name had a task to complete, which I deleted once I finished it.

One day, fed up with working for others, I added a column to the end of the spreadsheet. It was titled, “Tiffany.” Although I was Tiffany, I tried looking at myself in the third person, making her a client with deadlines and a task list of her own.

Whenever I worked on projects, even if it meant pushing a prepaid client to the backburner, I worked Tiffany’s tasks into the day’s workload, knowing that although she didn’t prepay for the work, she was going to pay me even more once the project was complete.

Balancing your own projects with that of clients is often how Moms in a family operate. They take of everyone else but themselves. We all know a Mom (maybe even yourself) who start getting sick, but instead of going to the doctor, they spend their time and money on the kids’ needs. Then they wind up with pneumonia or something worse because they couldn’t see the logic in putting themselves first.

By constantly focusing on clients and ignoring your own business needs, you’re hurting your financial future. Don’t put it off another day. In fact, do it right now – add your name to your client list and map out a task list for yourself of what you need to do to set up an automated income. The relief you feel one day waking up to sales with zero work to be done is a feeling unlike any other.

Tiffany Dow is the author of Building an eBook Empire, which teaches you in a step by step manner how to get your own info product on the market. She used a guinea pig student to determine what needed to go into the guide from a complete newbie perspective so no stone is left unturned.
